Obtaining Job Visa

Adil07666

Hi all,

I am newly registered member to this blog. I found this blog to be really helpful after going through few blogs and as such I would like to ask questions regarding getting the job visa to work in Riyadh, KSA.
1)I, currently live in USA. I got a job offer as an assistant professor from a university in riyadh. I have recently submitted my degree certificate and waiting for my job visa. I was wondering how long does one have to wait till he/she hears any news about the visa. All I have been hearing is that, your visa is in process... for almost over a month now.
         2) Also, I have been offered 10,000 SR per month as a salary excluding housing allowances of 30,000 SR anually. Is this a decent amount for a family of 3 to live in Riyadh, KSA?
Please someone help in answering my questions. I am a novice to a place like KSA and your answers means a lot to me. Thanks in advance

10K per month plus 30K housing for a family f five may be a bit tight depending on your lifestyle, status, and needs.

You will also have to insist on an offical vehicle or a transportation allowance, usually 10% of basic salary, in order to be mobile. There is no decent public transporation systemn in Riyadh, yet, sadly. Taxis/Limo's are available but not for everyday use. Rent a car will cost, easily, SR 100 per day, minimum. You can buy a car on monthly payments of approx SR 1500-2000 per month which may be supplmented by the transportation allowance they usually pay in most contracts.

I would recommedn a counter offer of SR 15K as basic for starters, plus HOusing Allowance os SR 45K per annum plus Transportation Allowance of SR 18K per annum (10% of basic).

Education for three kids will cost a lot unless they subsidize same or pay for it directly.

I assume that they will ofer you free medical insurance and also air tickets for the family from home state to Riyadh and back, at least every year?

though even 45K will not be making things easy to be accomodated in a decent compound, but its ok if your not going to stay in a compound.

A western style compound is completely out of the question @ 45K per annum. I was thinking more of a 3 bedroomed apartment for approx 30-35K per annum with a balance saving of 10-15K to supplement the living costs. Compound rates are almost in the 80K-200k Range per annum.

exactly. *noding*

First of all thanks for all the replies. Musicman, we are a family of 3 and not 5. Actually, they are offering me $15,000 SR for furniture (one time only), free medical insurance, air tickets for myself and my family, free education for upto 3 childrens plus 2 months paid summer leave. I am an Indian hence staying in compound is out of question. The partial reason of us moving over to KSA, is to raise the children in proper Islamic surroundings.
