lawyer who can guide me through importing my car

frankfrakes

My name is Frank, I am from Houston by way of Chicago. I lived in Romania from 2005 to 2008 and am moving back. The laws have changed and I need some guidance . First I need a lawyer who can guide me through importing my car. I have the extended visa and the temporary residency under control, I think! Looking forward to connecting to other expats. I worked for many years in oil and gas in a lot of different places.

@frankfrakes

I would hardly discourage you from shipping a car to Romania from the US. My wife is Romanian. She had an aunt who brought a car over from the US a few years ago. It was nothing but a royal pain. A , the transportation is horribly expensive.

And be there is no one there to work on the darn thing. You can’t even get an oil change done. Best of luck.

Really? I lived there for over a decade, and never had a problem with that. Millions of other car owners also do oil changes in Romania, it's not hard.

@Frank, you shouldn't need a lawyer to import a car, the process has been discussed at length on this forum and there is plenty of info online.  It's a time-consuming, bureaucratic process but most accomplish it on their own.  I might agree however, that importing a car from the USA is often not money well spent.
