I am a mature lady who is interested in corresponding with some new friends in the Algarve region of Portugal. I m retired cooking teacher.

I own my own home in Santa Cruz, California which is one block from the ocean and is very beautiful.

I want to move to the Algarve region because I need to live somewhere warmer than here.

I have a licensed service dog, who is 11 years old and we are both in excellent health. I want to rent a house, cottage, or apartment close to the ocean. I need it to be one bedroom, or two, and fully furnished. I am thinking of spending $1200-$1500.00 a month on rent which I would hope includes utilities.

California has some surprisingly cold coastal towns. As Mark Twain once wrote. And some of course that are warmer in the winter than anywhere in continental Portugal. It isn't that these areas get terribly cold, it's just that they're surprisingly rarely really warm. And windy.

The problem with southern Europe is not just that we have a cold wet part of the year, it's that people have been here for millennia living with it. California is mostly settled very recently, by populations used to much colder winters, so cold outside or not, the residences will be as warm as you like.

Our neighbor (sort of - owns the field next door), would rather spend winters in Switzerland, where he worked as a bus driver. It's obviously colder, but it isn't as damp.

Mexico might be worth looking into.
