I thought i was the only 1 getting contact requests from men as you say  this is not a dating app, even though I have never hidden that I’m in a relationship, most of mine have been from either India or Pakistan do they think we are vulnerable & an easy target just because its a female name

Yes, I'm sure it's a scam, hoping to groom us into parting with money.  My profile says that I'm married, disabled and retired!  Hope it stops soon.

Hi thanks for that I will let him know, it needs stopping. We are not vulnerable but there are women that are & I would hate for 1 of them to end up being taken in by these men

I don't know if it's necessarily just targeting women this is our family email that both my wife and I use and in some cases the requests are of a non-gender-related purpose. Sometimes regarding seeking work opportunities and so forth. I had not really paid it too much mind I thought it was arbitrary but this may be related to your experience just FYI.

Always be cautious nonetheless as there are predators looking for vulnerable women so good for you ladies for coming forward.

Totally agree.

Don’t worry I am always well aware & always suspicious of someone wanting a contact request for no apparent reason usually I just decline their request but some of them can be very persistent but I still decline, lets hope it ends soon

Yep I agree very tiresome, & I still think they are targeting women only as not seen any men on here complaining about being asked for contact requests, I could be totally wrong & if I am I apologise

Maybe it would be good to add funtionality to expat.com that allows users to select whether they want to be contactable via PMs.  I assume this wouldn't be very complicated.

Hi June Malone,

The "Add to contacts" and "Send a message" options that appear on your profile can be removed by you in your profile options.

You can also easily block people who send you these private messages & report these profiles.

Sorry, Jean Denise, I got one too (male here), from a 'lady' in HongKong (or wherever), haha! Reported it and she got blocked! But I agree, it's unacceptable to get harassed but probably difficult to stop. And shame if the PM function is blocked, there might be some members of the forum, having questions etc.

Hi please accept my apologies but you are the first male I’ve heard of getting these contact requests, I had a “female” contact request that was not only banned but was a male, so who can you trust.

Oh us Males get them all the time. As an Expert on the site, we get PMs as well with the same question that they post on the site.

I (bloke) get them, I just block them.  I can't believe that anybody is interested in a grumpy old man like me, perhaps they just like my Avatar.

Seriously; it's unacceptable to treat anybody like this and I believe the Forum does what it can to provide a means to remove these people from our little bit of social media.  I wish there was a way to press a button and make these people if not disappear, at least behave like reasonable human beings, but there's not.  Being what the Forum is, we invite people in off the street, so the people we get coming in will always reflect the society in general.

I get them too and just block them as Cynic does.

I agree with the last paragraph from Cynic too.
