Importing a car to Portugal

Emre Mutlu

Hello,

Im going to bring a car from italy, a 2005 model Toyota Land Cruiser 3.0 diesel. Some source says when imported you pay co2 tax with others, some other sources say if you bring a car made before 2007(before law changed) you dont pay co2 tax. Does anybody have information about this subject?

Thanks in advance,

Kind regards,

Emre

The main one-time tax when importing a vehicle from another EU country into Portugal is the Imposto Sobre Veículos (ISV), or Vehicle Tax.

You have some ISV simulators here:

I assume that you are a resident of Italy who is now moving to Portugal. When moving from one EU country to another EU country and if the vehicle was in your possession for some time you shouldn't have to pay anything. Maybe DeepSeek (or so) can answer this.
