DUA HELP PLEASE (AMERICAN)

Hi,

When I lived in Portugal, I used my American drivers license to buy a car and register it.  I got a DUA for the car.  A few days before I moved back to the USA, I didn't realize my car insurance was out, and I got pulled over, they sent me back to my home village, and took my DUA, saying I have a E500 ticket to pay for driving without insurance.  Also, my address has changed since my orignial DUA was issued.  It would need to be sent to the house I bought.  I am trying to get rid of the car.  My nephew wants it, he took it to his property but they won't file the transfer without a copy of my DUA.  What do I do?

Thank you very much

The DUA (Documento Único Automóvel), or Single Vehicle Document, is essential for transferring ownership. Since it was confiscated, you need to contact the Portuguese authorities to resolve the fine and recover the document, or request a second copy.
