Unregistered uk car

vieiraning55

Hi, new to the site but wondered if anyone else had same situation as us. We moved here in June 2021 and with everything going on, did not register our uk car. Now we have to pay the exorbitant taxes or get rid of it. It’s too good to scrap, I’ve put an ad on this site, just wanted to know if anyone had one this or are we the only numptys around? Thanks.

You're not the first to fall into this trap. There's no simple answer as even selling to a Brit here means they cannot legally drive it on the road as it's been in country too long and MOT/TAX have expired anyway (not sure of the ethics of selling MOT expired vehicle but am told  "MOT expired on 26 February 2021" ) and that'll invalidate any insurance.

There are shippers (advertise in some of the Algarve papers) who will transport it back to the UK and then if you have a friend or family there they'll be able to do the paperwork etc. and sell it. I have been stopped previously and had to prove when my car entered the country and show it's MOT and TAX and Insurance and passport etc.
