Hi Sandeep,

For simplicity, I tried researching the net for you on this topic in hopes of directing you to a link, but everything I found seems extremely out dated.

I will forewarn you the cost of living in Norway is extremely high. The higher wages do offset this a bit, but not enough.

In Lillehammer, where I live,  you can expect to pay a minimum of 4500Kr per month for your own tiny apartment. Oslo is much more expensive.
A couple of other prices for comparing to your local costs:
A BigMac costs 80Kr
1 Liter of diesel costs over 12Kr

Living in NOrway, its expencive.
ON this link are apartments for rent. Just click on one of the options for looking at one area within oslo and it will show the apartments for rent in that area. If you want to live in the center of the town it will be at the minimum 8000 kroners.
In US dollars thats 1333 $.

Besides the rent its almost ALWAYS electrisity bill at the side and the electrisity in Norway cost very much!

And most people that rent out apartment need a deposit either for one or two and sometimes three month if they rent out to you. So you need deposit money too.

If you gonna take the buss ect you can buy something called a bus card. It last for one month and cost about 1000 kroners. Thats 167 US dollars.

And then you have food expences.
Here are some exsamples:
Milk 1 1\2 liter - 4,2 us dollars
1 1 \2 liter coca cola - 3,5 us dollars
1 big one pizza - 10 us dollars
1 small container of butter - 4,1 us dollars
400 grams of hot dogs - 7,8 us dollars
1 white bread - 4,2 us dollars
1 box of cereals - 5,4 us dollars
50 gram of tobacco - 30 us dollars
20 pac of sigarettes - 16 us dollars

For Oslo:

- Rent: 1000 euro for small flat, 1 bedroom
- Electricity: 150 euro for small flat 50 sqm, incl heating
- Education: Free at state schools/universities
- Healthcare: Free at state hospitals, ridiculously expensive
  otherwise.
- Transport: 70 euro for monthly pass, 4 euro for 10 km by bus
- Taxi: 10 km for 55 euro
- Telephone: 0,12 euro for 1 min prepaid, 40 euro for cable tv, 40 for 10 mb internet.
- Heating: 75 euro per month for 50 sqm.
- Water: if renting flat its included, if you own your own flat         you must pay about 85 euro for water and garbage monthly
- Supermarket (for 1 adult): 350 euro per month
- Sigarettes: 10 euro for 20 pcs.
- Wine: 12 euro at the shop, 3 euro for beer
- Beer at a pub/bar 9 euro for pint
- Coffee at a cafe: 4 euro
- Car Fuel: 1.90 euro per litre
- Clothing: like most of europe
- Restaurant: 1 drink for 12 euro, beer for 9. McDonald menu for about 11 euro. Eating at a lovely restaurant about 30 euro for main dinner without dessert and wine for one person. A bottle of wine for 30 euro at restaurant. Expect to pay about 130 euro for two persons incl wine and dessert.

What is most expensive in Norway: rental/buying flat and houses, nightlife and taxi, meat like chicken-lamb etc, restaurant, tobacco and alcohol,

Not expensive: Phone, internet, electrisety, gasoline, non-food groseries and clothes - if you compare to other european countries.

A norwegian income after tax: 2800 euro for a simple/easy job.

I am planning to attend a convention in Trondheim, Norway for 5 days. How much budget do I need to have in order to cope with the costs of living in the said city? This question excludes accommodation and the three meals for the day. Only pertains to transportation, snacks, tours, and treats.

Italy has a long civilization, great architecture, food and history.

Norway is equally beautiful in scenery but the architecture is modern and contemporary - there are no such constructions that matches those in South Europe, however the salary/wages are much higher in Norway , but Italian culture is very nice

Norway and Italy are great countries in their own respect

So are Japan and United Arab Emirates

USA and China

Singapore and Malaysia


It is difficult to compare countries, especially when they differ so much as Italy and Norway.

Norway is certainly more organised, but Italian culture is more relaxed.
