Quality of customer service in Norway

Hello everyone,

Customer service can say a lot about everyday life in Norway, and for many expats, it’s something that could take time to get used to. In order to help expats and soon-to-be expats to adjust to local expectations, we invite you to share your insights.

How would you describe customer service in Norway?

Are staff generally friendly and helpful, or more formal and direct?

How do businesses handle complaints or requests for refunds?

Do expats get treated differently than locals?

Any tips on how to get the best service in Norway?

Share your experiences and stories, whether positive, challenging or funny!

Thank you for your contribution.

Like many people, I arrived in Norway thinking that it was a modern and efficient country.  Far from it.   Customer 'service' is another example of how far behind that Norway is.   Dealing with both public and private companies is often EXTREMELY slow.   Waiting times for replies to emails are usually long.   It seems that many companies here in Norway do not understand the meaning of the words 'customer service'.

Try contacting Posten.no, Vy.no or any of the government departments and see how the customer 'service' is.    Occasionally, but only occasionally, there are are exceptions, but overall customer service here is far below normal standards.

The increasing use of A.I. bots is making the situation worse, as getting hold of real people now becomes more and more difficult.   That makes customer service even worse, although this is probably happening everywhere now.   But when you do get through to a real person, then standards of customer service are going to be a lot lower than in many other countries.
