Travel during PR extension

GuestPoster1448369

Hi,

I have a valid temporary resident permit until end of next year and want to apply for a permanent residency now.

Can I travel during the processing of PR as I still have my temporary resident permit which is valid?

Thanks.

Hi again.

Short periods away for like a business trip or family holiday shouldn't be a problem, but anything longer (months), you will be required to unregister yourself with the Gemeente and then you will no longer be able to be considered for any residence permit.

If your next question is how long can I stay away - I have no idea, ask the Gemeente where you are registered; a quick look on the Internet tells me they have different durations.

Hope this helps.

Hi Cynic,

Thanks for the quick reply. The period will be short like 3 weeks or so which I have been away couple of times already. Only concern is if it can be done during PR processing time.

Hi again.

I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't be able to do what you describe.

Hope this helps.
