Job security during covid

As an EU citizen, you have the right to live and work anywhere in the EU.  You are correct in identifying that all EU countries have the right to deport anybody back to their home country in certain circumstances, one of which is should they become dependant on the state and could not find work.

With regards to who gets laid off first, most countries have a last in, first out policy when it comes to laying off employees and ex-pats do generally seem to be largely transient, so you would expect them to be one of the unlucky ones.  It's one of the factors you have to bear in mind when you are considering leaving your home country.  Also, if communication skills are important to a specific role, it is likely that a natural speaker will tick a box that you may not.

With regards to job security, the same laws are there as before; working in a warehouse is no more safe/unsafe than before, what has changed is the world-wide general uncertainty and its effect on the global economy.  If you do decide to move, all you can do is plan carefully and make sure that in the event of you becoming an unlucky ex-pat, that you have some money saved so you can get back home.

Work at the moment has been disrupted by COVID, so perhaps wait until the current pandemic is sorted before you inflict more uncertainty on yourself.
