IND: Minor student from Albania residency

thewander

Hi everyone!

Me (Dutch passport) and my girlfriend (Albanian passport/Dutch residence with permanent stay objective) have a spare room in our house. We would love to be able to give up this room for my girlfriend her first cousin (the daughter of her mothers sister). We think it would be great if she could come here to study at a Dutch "middelbare school" and then go to a Dutch college afterwards.

We have the full support of her parents as well, but the problem is that we do not see any options in the Dutch residency options for her. The only option we possibly see is the study residency:

IND doesn't seem able to or want to provide us with more information on how to go this route. They told us to contact the schools, the schoold told us to contact IND and now we are stuck in a loop. My main concerns are, which school in our area (Haarlem/Amsterdam) are IND registered as per "Your educational institution is a recognised sponsor by the IND" as well as the part that states: "The Netherlands is the most appropriate country for your education".

Is anyone familiar with the process that could give us some more information or instituations we should contact to get things going?

Kind regards,

thewander

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

I don't think this will be easy; I've never heard of it and after asking around the Dutch side of my family, neither have they.  There is no IND register of schools for them to give you, the onus is on you to find a suitable school, and then apply to the IND, if you are successful, then the school is entered on the IND register for that particular student.

So, step one, you need to go to a local school and speak to them to see if they are willing to help you or perhaps advise you on which establishment may be able to help.

I'm assuming you've read the requirements in the link you provided for this visa.  I think the major obstacles will be:

  • Dutch language, they will expect her to be able to speak fluent Dutch, particularly for any school above MBO.
  • That the education she will receive in the Netherlands is not available in her home country.  There are schools in Albania.
  • At the end of her work, she will be expected to go back to her own country.

Not sure if I've helped much, but I wish you the best of luck with this.

I checked the link you shared and the way I interpret is that's impossible for her to study in the Netherlands: she is not Dutch and she can't speak Dutch, she needs a MVV to get into the Netherlands and the education she would like to get must be useful in Albania...

If you think it's possible you can send me a pm and I'll shall try to explain better and more in detail.

All the best.

Thanks for thinking with me.. I came to a similair conclussion and think she'll have to wait until she can come here for her HBO studies.
