Hello sunkanminounsurat,

Welcome to Expat.com 1f600.svg

The time it takes to learn Luxembourgish, German, or French depends on various factors like your prior language learning experience, language proficiency goals (basic or fluent), and the amount of time you can dedicate to studying.

Cheers,

Hello sunkanmimonsurat,

Just like Cheryl said, it really depends on many, many different criteria! 1f605.svg In addition to what Cheryl listed, I would add personal interest, as it is faster to learn a language you like than one you don’t.

As a native French speaker, I can’t really talk about this language - though it has the reputation of being hard to learn. I noticed that it is generally easier to learn for people who speak Romance languages (like Spanish or Italian).

German is usually easier to learn for people who already speak Germanic languages (English, Scandinavian languages, Dutch…). Luxembourgish also seems to be extremely quick to learn for Germanic language speakers.

Which languages do you already speak? Which one would you like to learn first?

Thank you!

Lauranne
