Lakcímkártya

Hello All
We spend summers in Hungary and have bought a house  near Tisza. We have not been able to get there for two years and as its an old cob house have concerns about its condition.

We are trying to get there this summer but of course due to Covid this is problematic
The embassy said we can enter if we have a Lakcímkártya. We dont have this as have not needed so far
as we only spend a few month a year there.

We have some Hungarian friends who can assist a bit

Any suggestion on how to get into Hungary this year we are both doubled vaccinated

It's not looking that good to get in here without a Hungarian vaccination certificate or PCR tests.  It would mean quarantine somewhere.  The Delta/Indian variant's spread would mean difficulties coming from the UK to here.

Unfortunately no-one seems to know if the free EU vaccine certificate would be issued to non-EU citizens (don't know your nationality - assumed UK) nor does anyone really know where or how to qualify to get it. Presumably the place would be the Kormanyablak ("government window" - government office for these kind of things).  The green certificate card they issue now here is issued at the Kormanyablak so probably the same place.

You might want to try registering here for a residence card.  You can do it if you can prove you were here before 2021 and Brexit proper.   Owning a property might work - but that's idle speculation on my part.

Good luck with it.  You might like this link:

....and the statement therein:

"With regards to the Withdrawal Agreement, Hungary provides opportunity for obtaining a national permanent residence permit to those UK citizens without a registered Hungary residence who can credibly substantiate their habitual residence in Hungary for the time period preceding 1 January 2021"

You could try and use your ownership of the house as credible substantiation to register yourselves.  But you'd have to come here to HU to do it or perhaps get a lawyer to do it.    I believe some people get over the quarantine thing by using AirBNB addresses.  Having been through quarantine, you do need to stay there as the cops turn up randomly.  On the other hand they might just say, meh, vaccinated, no quarantine needed.  It's just not clear what would happen on the day when standing at the immigration desk at the airport - like so many things in Hungary it often just seems random.

BTW, you definitely need to be here for a national residence permit - they take your fingerprints now (same for Hungarians and their identity cards).

No idea how you can enter ATM.
If you come for business purposes that might be a way in?
Cob house, suppose that's one of those Mud homes?
It shuld be OK for 2 years but just have your friend look it over for you.
Maybe they could arragne any repairs if needed.
Our HU friend was left an old farm house by his parents.
We visited him ther eon summer, he only came to HU every few years from NY.
Well last we heard it fell down because he was too ill t travel for years.
Just have someone do a look'see for you and dont panic.
This will blow over soon, fingers crossed.
I mentioned business purposes because we know a wealthy HU couple who left HU to travel to the US and then onto Mexico. The women had to get to NY to see her daughter for her birthday and no one was going to stop her( they rich think differently then the rest of us do) they do not really work but on paper have businesses.
Was good enough to even go too Mexico on vacation with the business paperwork.
