How to be happy as an expat in England

Cheryl

Hi everyone,

Being happy is surely our common goal, whether we are living in England as an expat or somewhere else.
We would love to know your tips and tricks to be fully fulfilled and happy as an expat in your host country.

New environment may require new habits. Which habits did you have to implement to live a good life in England?

How do you keep stress in check? Which activities or mantras help you in that regard?

How to form meaningful connections and create a support system in England on which you can rely on?

How to track your goals and achieve them without feeling overwhelmed?

What did you learn from English about the notion of happiness and how does it inspire you?

Thanks for your contribution!

Cheryl,

My experience is, that it helps a lot to get to know people. Try to be open and get in contact with a lot of people in you first months until you find your group of friends. That was an important factor for my happiness when I moved to London. And I also started some team activities, like playing football. I got to know many mates there and can totally recommend starting a hobby or joining specific groups when moving to a new place. And onces you find friends there, it´ll feel like home :)

Hello tobiasjones86,

Thanks for sharing your experience. Getting to know people in a new place combined with practicing a hobby is a double win to build confidence in a group setting and increase happiness in one's expat life. :)

If you have more insights to share, don't hesitate to chime in again.

All the best,

Diksha

Hello everyone.

To be happy in England, I would advise to try to meet local people. Happy expats are usually those who embrace local culture. However, everyone is different and people have different ways to be happy as expats in their host country.

See you all later.

Hi, Cheryl! I also think that being open to people is the key to a happy life, not only as an expat, but anywhere else. Perhaps you would also be interested in going to dance because dancing is a universal language that helps you get closer and have a good time.
