Dealing with repairs, maintenance or renovation works in Cyprus

Hello everyone,

Navigating repairs and maintenance in Cyprus can feel overwhelming, especially when you are unfamiliar with local standards, prices, and service providers.

One day or another, every expat has to deal with a leaking tap, a broken AC unit, electrical issues, or even bigger renovation works. We invite you to share experiences to help each other avoid stress or unpleasant surprises:

Where do you find reliable professionals in Cyprus: local online platform, official directory, word-of-mouth…?

How do you check if they are trustworthy?

Is it common to request a written quote before work starts?

How do you evaluate if the rates are fair and adapted to the market?

Are deadlines for works usually respected in Cyprus?

What guarantees are typically provided and how do you handle problems if the work is poorly done?

Any tips, red flags, or success stories to share with fellow expats?

Thank you for your contribution,

Cheryl

Some tips that save a lot of stress. If you rent, check the contract for who pays for repairs. Usually the landlord covers structural work and appliances, and the tenant covers minor wear. Report everything in writing (WhatsApp is fine) with photos. For AC, get the units serviced before summer. Technicians are booked solid by June. Before you rent or buy, ask for recent EAC bills and look for damp in the corners and behind wardrobes. Fresh paint in winter can hide it. For bigger renovations, always get 2–3 written quotes, pay in stages, and never pay the full amount upfront. ***
