Expatriation to Bulgaria and Bringing my dogs

sophiefreilich

@Johnavann

Good evening,

What you say does not impress me in Belgium it is worse.

I prefer people who are free to think and not the dictatorship of Belgium.

In addition, life is expensive in Bulgaria and it is sunny if you go to live in the south of Bulgaria.

I am a single girl with 2 dogs.

I am looking for a house in Bulgaria in the south and in the Rhodope Mountains.

What region do you live in?

If you know a good real estate agency to give me.

THANKS.

See you soon

A dog lover is welcomed.   I have three that are family.  The best thing to do is just jump in and plan a 10 day trip to explore.   You will find many super opportunities.   I have travelled the coutry extensively but am not an expert.  Any questions you have I will do my best to answer with objctive advice.   The first piece of advice is go slow and consider renting for your first relocation.  Rent is not very expensive and it will prvide a base for further exploration.

If you buy the first questions are sewer water and electricity?     The seond is to see the bills.

I have a question to ask you, did you come with your dogs by plane or by car.

If you came by car, does customs require documents for your dogs,

if so, which ones, thank you.

Beautiful day

You need a vets examination for any dog entering bg..

Vaccination

Rabies etc

.vet will advise..its not cheap.

Good luck.

Sophia, As you live in the EU, you need an EU pet passport. Your vet will be able to advise on that.  The official information is here: https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/t … dex_en.htm The check should be the same whether your pet arrives by car or by plane.

Johnavann's experience if he imported a pet will be different as he came to Bulgaria from outside the EU. It's really important on this forum to check where someone giving information came from, as the requirements are not the same for EU and non-EU citizens. Gets especially confusing when Brits state what they did pre-Brexit when it's nothing like that for Brits now!

I came by plane from USA and a health inspection was required for travel.   No one in Bulgaria asked for the documents when I arrived.   Better t check with customs than be dissapointed.

Well said regarding Bg Pet passport.   When the dogs went to the Vet the first time they were issued a pet passport.  They have not been out of country since then so my knowledge is limited.

Thank you for answering me but I will come by car from Belgium with my 2 dogs and drive 2400 kilometers.

Hello everyone,

Please note that I have created this new thread on the Bulgaria forum so that you can discuss about bringing pets.

The other thread where you initially posted was meant to discuss another topic (snakes, bites etc)

All the best

Good morning,

I am Belgian and I have 2 dogs an Argentinian dog who comes from France and a morning from Naples who comes from Mexico.

I have a European card for my dog Vesta but for Ganesh my Mexican dog I do not have a European passport.

Could someone tell me if I should have one.

Thank you.

Beautiful day

@Johnavann

Hello,

It is therefore necessary to change the passport to a Bulgarian or European passport.

I find my life rather inexpensive in Bulgaria, much lower than other nearby experiences (UK, Spain, Germany, Cyprus).

Also very dry and sunny most of the year, I rarely miss a daily walk due to bad weather. Winter can be very cold (we've had -13 at our house) and very hot in summer (we've experienced 40-degree days). But I don't find that there's a significant difference between regions (Bulgaria is not very big). But maybe you can see a difference of a few degrees if you go higher (e.g. Bansko is at 900m).

If you want mountains, Bulgaria has plenty! Rhodopes, Rila, Pirin, Balkan are the main ones, I think. The Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina) are particularly significant as they go across most of the country from Serbia to Sveti Vlas on the coast. Central Balkan National Park (near Karlovo) and Pirin National Park (near Bansko) are spectacular. The Rhodopes (near Plovdiv and Asenovgrad) are lovely too. There are some smaller ones like Sredna Gorna (north of Chirpan) and Sakar and Strandzha (south-east at the Turkey border). That means there are plenty of villages to choose from in these areas.

There are so many agencies, you can find them if you search with Google. For research, I suggest looking at BulgarianProperties (dot com) as they are a very large agency with listings all over Bulgaria, and with a wide range including land, apartments, unrenovated village houses, and brand-new European-standard houses in/near the larger cities. This will give you a good idea of what's available for your budget.

Thank you for all this very interesting information.

Beautiful day
