We are ready to pull up our roots here in the USA and relocate to Albania. I must admit we have worries but can't let our fears hold us back any longer. I'm here seeking advice. I'm 66 and my husband is 72. All we have is out social security - no 401k, etc. (we had it but it vanished completely over the years as we helped other family members.... silly, perhaps, but it is what it is.)
Things are getting just too expensive here in the USA and frankly we do not feel safe.
We own our home. My husband tells me we should sell it and "just move", but I don't think that would be wise. I think we should move to Albania, rent a place in Albania and rent our home here. The way I see it, doing so would bring us a bit of income while we explore and see if Albania is a good fit.
We have 2 dogs; I am not leaving them behind. I am type 2 diabetic fairly well controlled. From what I read, Albanian hospitals leave somewhat to be desired. What about veterinary services?
I should add that I moved to the USA when I was in my late teens and have maintained my Italian citizenship. Moving to Italy is out of the question because it's quite expensive there.
We also considered Ecuador or Colombia, but I think Albania might be an even cheaper alternative.
What do you all think? Sorry for this long post. Any and all advice/suggestion will be much appreciated. Thank you.
