Medical Care

Hi looking for information on the health care system in DR.  Is there easy access to hospitals especially if faced with an emergency?  Are some cities better than others for medical access as I hear there are different levels of care based on finances.  How about emergency response transport (ambulance service)?

Thanks for any info.

Just like in the US, different locations have different facilities and levels of care available. It's something to research as you look at different areas of the country.

We're in Las Terrenas and we have some great doctors here, a large international clinic, and there will soon be a regional hospital opening. A good friend of mine is currently in the international clinic and his reports are that the care is excellent! He even had a virtual consultation with a specialist in Santiago from his hospital bed.
You will definately want insurance here if you qualify!  If something happens and you have no insurance you will go to a public hospital untIl you provide cash or credit cards!

There are two levels of care : public and private.

Public health care is not good!

Private care ranges from decent to fantastic.  Of course that depends where you live. Larger cities have better clinics and hospitals generally.
Thank you for your reply.  Good to know!
