Hi! I’m Angie, an American mom from New Jersey. I’m seriously considering relocating to the Sosúa/Cabarete area with my daughter. I work remotely and create travel/lifestyle content, and I’m researching schools, housing, and what everyday life is really like for families there. We are in NJ too and moving to Cabarete in 16 days! We do not have kids but have been going to Cab and Sosua for past 10 years. As far as living there and where, it would depend on your likes, dislikes and that you have a child... obviously you would want to be near a school, then decide if you will have a car or will be walking everywhere, etc.... If you look up Shay Racey on FB, she has a wealth of knowledge for the area and info regarding children, schools, activities. She has been there for 15 years and is now a realtor too.  If you are shipping anything, try MTI Cargo in Perth Amboy. I looked up MANY shippers and they all have like 2 point something google reviews scores, some good, some bad, but MTI was the only one I found with almost a 5 star rating (we are using them for a few boxes).
