Julien

Hi all,

Newbie on the Dominican Republic forum? Don't know how to start?

This thread is for you ;)

We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country,
or to tell us more on your expat projects in Dominican Republic if you are planning to move there.

It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.

Welcome on board!

Hello everybody. I am a 62 years old Dutchman. Have just retired from 35 years with the UN, having worked and lived in 12 countries. Am planning to move to the Dominican Republic with my family (wife and 16 year old daughter) this summer and am currently looking for a good place to buy a house or apartment, preferably in a conjunto, and, most importantly, a good international school. Any advice, suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks!!

Welcome to the forums! There are a few forums with school info.  Do a search and if you don't find what you need feel free to open a thread on this.

Please note school registration here is pretty early, we return to school in August

Welcome Aboard Peter,

The Abraham Lincoln International school is located in La Romana on the south coast. It is British curriculum and they teach in English. $10,000 / year is the price. Grade 1 thru 12. Graduates go to Canadian, U.S. and European Universities.

La Romana, on the other hand, is a sprawling city of 150,000 people. I am re-locating to Las Terrenas on the north coast next month after 10 years in La Romana / Casa de Campo. Las Terrenas has many more beaches and a jungle feel to it even though it is a vibrant city of 40,000.....

Good luck with your search

Thanks for the info so far! We checked the Saint George school in Santo Domingo and really liked it. But not sure which would be the best place to live not too far from there. To be honest we were a bit put off by the traffic….
