Looking for U.S. Federal Employees that have retired in the DR

Joe Libbey

Hello,

I will be retiring this year from the USDA Forest Service after 38 years. I have some questions about using the federal health insurance in the DR.

Thanks,

Joe Libbey

I retired from USPS after 38 years .What insurance do you have . I know you can use BCBS  I'm not in DR full time yet so I haven't had a chance to use it there.

If you are a Vet and receive disability there are a few Veteran organizations here that provides healthcare.

Are you hear yet or planning to retire here.

FYI Planner is a wealth of information

Hello Dewayne,

Yes, I have BCBS standard, which works overseas. I am a US Navy VET but not retired. I intend to move to the late this year or early next year.

One thing to keep in mind - just because your insurance covers you out of the country, that does NOT mean that all providers will accept it. Even with my local Dominican insurance, I almost always have to pay out of pocket and then submit claims for reimbursement.

DDmcghee,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am researching how the insurance will work in the DR. I also saw that the insurance has DR Hospitals in its network.

I am a retired Navy too. I am planning to move there once my home is completed in Nov 2025.  Location is Punta Cana and I have Florida Blue.
