Looking for a three bedroom apartment no more than 400 a month outside Santo Domingo city I’m on a fixed income. I know it’s hard to find something like that but I’ve seen them out there. I’ve been to Santo Domingo twice now. I’m going to retire out there but my retirement Social Security pay only allows me 1280 a month. Can you help?

Darryl Stewart

I have a girlfriend in Santo Domingo oeste something in that area would be fine too

planner

Okay on the outskirts of Santo Domingo you will be able to find something. You should have your girlfriend looking!

Boots on the ground is the way to find something.  Find areas you like and drive or walk the streets looking for rental signs.

Mercado libre website is also a good source of rentals. Again you need to know areas to look in!

Also, if you can drive in your "like areas" after nightfall. As we know  after sun down many things change, music,  partying,  etc. In many neighborhoods. Good luck and yes have your GF strt the process by looking...

Just checking (no pressure to share personal details), you do realize that the minimum income required for a retirement residency is USD 1500/month?

planner

Good point. Once you find a place or places you may like, check out the entire neighborhood various times of day.  You want to be in the area on the weekends and nights.  Weekends can change dramatically!!!!

You want to check for various services as well, garbage collection, water, internet and cell service and most importantly what circuit are you on with electricity!  You want to understand outtages!

@planner

If you can speak to your potential neighbors the likes and dislikes, as planner mentioned power, water supply, noise levels, camados,  etc..
