In Vietnam (not just Vũng Tàu) It's illegal for a foreigner to work without a Government work permit.

It's basically illegal for any foreigner to generate any income for themselves in Vietnam unless they are legally employed with a work permit or they have legally established a business here.

So you have to do a little bit of research to see which career fields are offering positions to foreigners who qualify as "experts".

When you are doing so, keep in mind that if there are Vietnamese people who qualify for such positions, you won't be able to be hired, because the government won't approve of you being hired when there are Vietnamese people who are qualified and can do the same job.

As OceanBeach has stated, working here is at the pleasure of the government. In the field in which I labored (education), I was informed that I had to have "expert" level qualifications that a Vietnamese person *could not have.* In my case, that was "native English speaker" even though I wasn't teaching English, I was teaching *in* English (subject was music), and that qualified me.

Outside the field of education I am pretty ignorant of what qualifies as "foreign expert" in the eyes of the government. I can say this, though: if there are Vietnamese people with the skills and qualifications needed to do your job, you'll have a tough time finding work and getting permitted to do it -- as OceanBeach has most succinctly stated.

Vietnam is a wonderful place to live, so I get why you'd want to move here and to Vung Tau. Good luck!
