Spreading ashes

Hi all, a really morbid subject but need to ask. When I finally kick the bucket can someone take my ashes back to Việt Nam to scatter. I realise my remains will end up back in Australia to be cremated but no where here I'd like them scattered.  Cheers all . Mark

Yes, someone can absolutely take your ashes to Việt Nam to be scattered. However, because it is an international repatriation of human remains, you need proper documentation and approvals.

Thanks SlimCity At, I'm in Australia and have tried a few times emailing the embassy here to no avail. Good news nonetheless.

It is highly recommended that you consult a funeral director who specialises in international repatriation to help you pre-arrange the paperwork.

I was under the impression that member MarkinNam is an Australian citizen, with no familial ties to Vietnam. If so then this wouldn't be a case of repatriation of one's remains.

MarkinNam, I can't see why the VN gov't might object to the scattering of one's ashes, but ultimately it is they who will have the final say. I suggest you continue reaching out to the Vietnam embassy in Australia. It might be that you'll need a very long-term visa/residency-card. 😉

When you expect to expire within 6 months, come back to Vietnam on a 3 month tourist visa.

Prepay your final arrangements (including cremation) with a mortuary here.

Include in your arrangements a local citizen friend who would be authorized to receive your remains in a ceremonial vase.

What they do with that after they leave the mortuary will be up to them and their willingness to follow through on your instructions.

You might need to do one visa border run before you expire.

Cheers!
