Moving to Da Nang and open a Brew Coffee Bar

The market is already saturated and tourism is nothing like it was pre 2021.  Need to make a living here for 4 people on coffee, forget it!

Juan, don't allow people who are negative about their own lifestyle choices take away from following your passions.  Where there's a will, there's a way.

Tourism ebs and flows regardless of the country so if you have a desire to relocate here follow your path.

Yes, always do your own research and weigh "YOUR OWN" pros and cons.  But don't ever allow someone else to discourage you!

@Max Schenkle Yes, we all want good for him. It's just a warning for him to look into reality. If his desire strong enough, well research, with unique selling point, he can do whatever he thinks right for himself and get success with it. The feeling of visiting some place new with fresh emotion is easily to understand, but opening a business there is something totally different.

Have you looked in to the requirements in VN to be issued a DT Visa (Investor visa)? (Link Google search)

The DT4 requires the least amount of capital input.

Aside from the 3 billion VND (~$120,000 USD) for a DT4, which will get you only a 12 month visa, there is also the overhead and the building of a customer base. Count on 3 years of losing money (this, according to restaurant,cafe owner friends of mine) before you realize any profit. From what I understand, that DT4 cannot be renewed, rather, you must reapply at the end of its validity and again show capital input (happy to be corrected on this if I'm wrong). You didn't mention the ages of your children, but if school expenses are to be factored in, an international school will easily run you ~$1,500 month/each child (~$3,000 for two children, minimum). Enrollment in the public school system here is not an option.

Health insurance must also be considered. Though substantially less expensive here in VN, paying out-of-pocket is not something I would recommend in light of your having dependants.

If money is no problem or concern for at least the first 3 years, then why not?

A 1-year ĐT4 business visa currently requires ₫600,000,000 VNĐ capital contribution; about $24,605.00 USD at today's exchange rate.

A ĐT3 investor visa which qualifies for up to a 3-year Temporary Resident Card is the one which currently requires a ₫3,000,000,000 VNĐ (about $123,027.00 USD) capital contribution.

It depends upon many things.

Is your brew coffee the best in the world?

You might be able to create a business that would attract enough foreign customers to make it profitable.

Maybe.

But you'd have to pull in all your profits during the high season in order to sustain you and your family during monsoon season.

Business rental rates are obscenely high right now in the An Tượng tourist area and most of the foreigner visitors are budget-minded backpackers & digital nomads who want the cheapest coffee possible with maximum WiFi while they tie up one of your tables for a few hours. 

Come back to us with a solid plan backed by sufficient capital and a history of success in this particular business field and you might receive more supportive responses.

Otherwise, you're just another dreamer imagining the improbable.

Yes, you should at least consider a different product.

I suppose they're still there selling their doughnuts, but when I was there, there was a Russian family in Vung Tau with loads of people (mostly locals) lined up to buy them and causing traffic jams every afternoon.

Never tried their doughnuts (don't need the calories), so not sure if they were good or not, but the main point is that they had basically ZERO competition.

Not only in tourist areas OB if you go outside & cater to the locals they will gladly come to your place as a regular, buy one coffee (if you are lucky, if not lucky 4 people will buy one coffee & share it & drink the free cold tea) stay there all day as you say, use the internet, use the toilets, sit there inside in the nice cold room with AC that you as the owner are paying for.
