Current Covid Test Requirement for Entering Vietnam

MikeTVN
PCR test 72-hours, RAT test 24-hours before entering.
- @colinoscapee
One more question about the time frame of 72 hours prior to arrival (not departure).
I assume it would be 72 hours of actual time not by a clock. Since I'm losing 11 hours from EST. to ICT during travel?
Guest2023
Test timeframe is before departure.

Oh terrific. That's what I thought was said here earlier but the Qatar said arrival so I will have to
take that up with them. Thanks.

I've seen a few reports in the last week which state that a Pre-Departure PCR test is required to enter Vietnam.......OR.....a test 'in-Country' within 24 hours of arrival.

Can anyone confirm this information?

Testing and vaccination requirements
- Passengers must have a negative test result for SARS-CoV-2 (except for children under 2 years old) before departure within 72 hours if using RT-PCR/RT-LAMP method or within 24 hours if using the rapid antigen test method for SARS-CoV-2 and certified by the competent authority of the country performing the test.
The reference in the law to testing within 24 hours after arrival is not for routine commercial travel.

It covers the rare case of an emergency or diplomatic flight where the person was not required to test prior to boarding the aircraft.

Airlines will not allow you to board the flight to Vietnam without the proper test certification.

Also going in May, but from Australia. Competent authority is designated for each authority. Usually able to provide a test result for international travel, and usually a paid service, not free. You may also need a printed copy of your Vaccination ceretificate (again an International certificate), the Covid 19 app on your smart phone. Buy a local sim card at the airport (about 250,000 - 300,000 dong) for contact tracing etc. If getting a taxi from airport to hotel, buy a taxi voucher from vendors inside airport. Costs a couple of dollars more but the only safe way to get a taxi. Change currency to dong at the airport, rate is OK and you'll need dong for many transactions.

Welcome to the Vietnam forum Reggie.

COVID testing results are no longer required.

The phone health tracking app is no longer required.

Hopefully you will find all of the information you need here.

It sometimes requires reading the entire thread.

To be up to date on all of the recent changes, THIS THREAD is recommended.

Cheers!

Visa runs are now the way to renew. The visa run has changed from spending two days out of the country, returning to a bus trip to the Cambodia border, and getting a new visa extension.

- @Safepeter
Just to clarify, many people are reporting doing a same day turn around border run, leaving HCMC in the morning and returning later in the day after entering and exiting Cambodia.

That's totally legitimate based on the eVisa rules.
Erikji
It's not an extension, you must have a new evisa.

@saigondave2 thanks

@OceanBeach92107 Thanks, back to the old system it seems or similar

- @peterl74
Yes, Peter, as far as visa runs are concerned it's the old system of a 1 day turn around being possible.

But no extensions of eVisas.

So it requires a brand new eVisa; advance online application required.

Based on current reports of immigration processing real time results, best to apply for the new eVisa as soon as you enter Vietnam on the current eVisa.

I've seen a few reports (admittedly anecdotal) where people said their eVisa application was rejected because they used a current address in Vietnam.

One alternative is to use a hotel address in Cambodia, such as the casino hotel just across the border:

Hope this is helpful
