So gets a call to go gate 2 to pick up our order fresh corn & pineapple. On the way back I see this car being loaded up with small boxes about 15cm x 15cm x 15cm with slots cut in them so stops to have a look & they are crammed full of baby chickens. This guy is just throwing them into the car & 2 young woman watching him. So turns out this Vietnamese family are breeding chickens in their fn apartment. I dont know why after 14 years here there are still things shock me but somethings still do & this is supposed to be an up market development too.
I wanted to have a small dog & went to the management to ask & to do it all legal & above board. Oh no thats against the rules............................but breeding chickens is OK I suppose.

They are not pets they are food, no one said you cant do take-away :)

How much? they have any ducks?

I lived in a house in Thu Duc in 2016 our rear neighbour had ducks. The smell would come into our house and it was unbearable. The owners were told not to have ducks, it never stopped them, they just ignored the law.

Think I need to clarify................think they must be getting eggs & incubating them, the amount of very small chicks in these boxes must have been a hundred or more so I suppose if it was grown hens producing that amount of eggs in a flat 75m2 it would be a bit over crowded right enough. Mind you if you had the hens racked up to the ceiling I suppose you could do it but as you say the pong would be unbearable :o

My friend in Brisbane has incubators they hold over 1,000 eggs! and produce chicks every 3 weeks, so  the apartment could have had hundreds in there.

Our Wall' by William Walker
Here inscribed the names of friends we knew,
Young men with whom we often flew.
Scrambled to many angels high,
They knew that they or friends might die.
Many were very scarcely trained,
And many badly burnt or maimed.
Behind each name a story lies
Of bravery in summer skies;
Though many brave unwritten tales
Were simply told in vapour trails.
Many now lie in sacred graves
And many rest beneath the waves.
Outnumbered every day they flew,
Remembered here as just 'The Few'.

That's not a bad thing if they have people making food and selling it all over the complex,, its the same guidelines they are now doing with restaurants?

Or maybe they have high numbers there?

We have had 3 a week apart, last one was on 8th not heard of anything yet about another.

Not sure, but I suspect it takes one days wages to pay for the covid test. About 10,000 D on the average per delivery is not much.

All the delivery people and volunteers in VT have been tested every 3 days for the last two months.  Certain Lotte Mart and FPT employees here also have to do the same thing because the supermarket and several FPT shops use their regular employees to deliver.  The test is quick, 20 minutes from the beginning to the result.

It's mass testing, which the companies pay as it's the requirement when they applied for permission to do business during lockdown.  In the case of volunteers, no one pays.

I just got a message to go get 2nd shot 9am 18th sept.

Did you both get the same brand for first shot?  Different brands have different intervals.

Sorry, I meant did you get a different brand than the GF when you got the first shot.  For example, did you get AZ while she got Moderna?

Coronavirus concerns see China halt Vietnam’s US$1 billion dragon fruit trade
China is the top destination for Vietnamese dragon fruit – representing over 80 per cent of total shipments and amounting to US$1 billion a year
Authorities in the Guangxi region, bordering Vietnam, found traces of coronavirus on packaging and cardboard boxes shipped from Quang Ninh province.

China has suspended imports of dragon fruit from Vietnam following the detection of coronavirus, temporarily halting a US$1 billion market as Beijing continues its vigorous testing of inbound food shipments for virus risk.
Imports of the tropical fruit have been suspended for a week beginning on Wednesday, Vietnam’s trade ministry said on its website.
Authorities in China’s Guangxi region, bordering Vietnam, informed the ministry of the halt after the coronavirus was found on packaging and cardboard boxes shipped from Quang Ninh province.
“It is quite a rare incident,” said Dang Phuc Nguyen, general secretary of Vietnam Vegetable and Fruit Association. “Workers at fruit-processing factories are required by the government to stay on site, test against Covid-19 regularly, and they are vaccinated.”

Dragon fruits make up one third of Vietnam’s exp

I can't help thinking that there are political considerations at play here.   Back in 2020 people were rather paranoid about surface transmission but that concern seems to have waned as scientists became more aware of the respiratory aspects.   This article states that the virus can only live for about 24 hours on cardboard surfaces.  Even then it would be difficult to pick it up and have it enter ones nasal passages.

I think China is trying to act "holier than thou" to offset criticism about the origins and escape of the virus back in 2019.

That doesn't sound like China.

Probably more likely that this is an opportunity to remind Vietnam that the USA is only their #2 trading partner:

Certainly China can't be too happy about Vietnam being so cordial to President Harris during her recent visit during which the "Strengthening of the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership" was announced.

I don't think it has been tested and it is mostly conjecture but some doctors have speculated that it might actually be better to have two different products if it stimulates different parts of the immune system.

Why are the two women in the top right photo in dress suits?  It's not usual seeing Vietnamese women all dressed up that way.  Stranger still, the one in purple wears Birkenstock thong sandals, definitely not Vietnamese favourite footwear.

Maybe Birkenstock knockoffs from a factory in Dong Nai.

They're certainly knockoff, but between knockoff Birkenstock and knockoff XYZ (any brand name here), Vietnamese would go for the latter.  Birks is not the preferred name in this country, even honeycomb slippers rank above Birks.

I've always been able to identify shoes, a knowledge acquired from training contestants for the local level of Miss USA Pageant in the '90s.
