A $10,000 Reward

Teacher Mark

I ran across this on Craigslist yesterday and would love to know who's behind it.  Before long there's sure to be search parties out beating the bushes. They may find bone fragments, or larger remains, but a soldier, soldiers, or a POW camp?  Highly unlikely...

The emotional part of me is glad that they are not forgotten and people are still asking questions. The rational part tells me that they were victims of the cold war. Not sure if this is an appropriate site to address this issue.

You should on an open forum be able to discuss your idea and thoughts. Part of my discussion was not knowing if this is appropriate. As the one who started the thread you should be able to respond in a gentle fashion your belief. There really is no need to be rude or disrespectful to another member. If I am wrong in the assumption of your intent, please let me know.  :thanks:

The strawman argument  :offtopic:

You guys forget that at one time you both said "Uncle Sam Ain't Released Me Yet"?  You should probably cool it a bit.

Going back to discussing the advertisement.  I saw that ad too and thought it was a far flung ad, looking something like the plot to the Rambo movie (the 2 in the series).  It is very unlikely considering the massive catastrophic failure in diplomacy if an American solider was found actually still alive and held captive.  The Vietnamese economy would be in ruins.  I don't think the current government would knowingly allow something like that to exist.  There's too much at risk.

Likely as you (Teacher Mark) observed, there might be remains.  However, it's not impossible to find a real person.  Perhaps a GI said to hell with it all and adopted a jungle life (not unheard of since there was news of Vets living in mountains and jungles long after a war has ended) of hermitage and solitude.   Maybe the advertisement is from someone who lost a very very close comrade in arms and wants to find closure/hope however slim that may be.   Still emotional for many people.

So the disagreement seems to be from facts/statistics/probabilities arguing with hope.

The Craigslist post says pictures and information.
Let us get some older Caucasian gentlemen, some older Vietnamese uncles. Go into the swampland in district 2 and take some shaky video footage.
that's got to be worth 5'000.
