only 12 days of annual leave?

It all depends on who you work for.

Public holidays:

1 January

5 days Tet festival - Lunar new year (since 1 Jan 2014)

1 Hung King day - 10 March Lunar year

2 days for 30 April and 1 May

1 day for National day on 2 September

If you are foreigner, plus 1 day on National day of your citizenship. If you hold 2 citizenships and none of it is Vietnamese, ask your employer for 2 days plus...

My fiance got this strange rule at her workplace don't know if it's typical with some companies in Vietnam. 5 days off if you get married.

If you work for the government, then just take away Christmas and New Year. 

As noted earlier, there might be more days off, granted to you on the part of your own employers, feel free to add to this list.  These all are I can remember, at this time.

I didnt know VN labour code has a day-off on HCM's birthday

Take that back, I remember that there is only about 4-10 days for Tet, depending on your employer.

It's typical to have annual leave only 12 days to start with. Then depends on the company's rules and regulation, annual leave will be increased ( 1 day after every 2 years, for example). Some companies will offer 14 days when you first sign the contract, but then it won't increase until much later.

I would prefer working on my birthday as I can receive birthday gifts. Haha. I am hard to please too. Just try to get it right. VNese employees are not allowed by laws to have a day-off on HCM's birthday.

After each 5 years of employment for "the same" employer, plus 1 annual day.

So it appears you don't get a paid day off for Hồ Chí Minh's birthday if you are a public servant.

Best job to work for?  US Embassy....

You get both the Vietnamese AND the American holidays off.  About 20 per year....not too shabby!

thanks for the answers. guess i'd try to negotiate something with the employer along the lines of "more holidays, less salary". 12 days is waaaaay to little for a spoilt european
