Facebook and iPhones

1) Yes fb is available.

2) walk into shop, buy simm, and insert into phone, job done!

facebook and i suspect other social media are closely monitored by the party just be aware of comments of a negative nature

FB is blocked here like China. You can access by changing your proxy settings:D
You can register sim with  major providers such as Viettel,Mobifone  or Vinaphone...

Anyway I can't access FB now.

Also many of the internet cafes here in Q.1 and Q.5 cannot access. Some bypassed it by installing  program like ultrasurf or changing the proxy setting. May be they cannot announce it officially. But the fact is that it's banned impliedly:) as so many anti-government comments from social medias like FB.

I've never had any problem accessing Facebook on my iPhone using Vinaphone 3G. Same for other VN mobile phone carriers. If I'm somewhere that the wi-fi won't allow access on my computer, I just use my phone and 3G.

It's not banned at all, it was blocked for a while, but that changed last year when Zucker... came to visit VN. then it became more open.
If you look at FB you will see hundreds of VN pages and people on there same as any other country.
The anti-government rants happen all over the place and are moderated when they can be. I have VN friend son fb who often post derogatory comments on there without worry. It's only if you become politically active you will draw attention to yourself.

Oh and the reason FB was blocked had nothing to do with politics as you perceive it, but the government had it's own social network that was competing with FB as such they were trying to promote that one rather than allow competition. It failed, no surprises and FB won.... for now.
China has it's social network that is slowly creeping outside of China, it will be interesting to see how well that develops in the western world.
If you think blocking web sites is going to prevent social unrest, then you are sadly mistaken. There are hundreds of local social websites that could be used should any momentum build in this way. Block them all?? Ha.. Ha... no chance given how the internet works and how current technology here is configured to block these sites. But that's a whole different subject better left elsewhere....

Ingore me...  banned  may as well be the same as blocked in this case. It's technically blocked by filters(firewalls) controlled by the government.
