Karaoke and Tet 2026

Aidan in HCMC

There was notification sent out via SMS a couple of weeks ago by the police of restrictions on times karaoke can be played, and of the police ready to respond to complaints of sound systems being played at too high a volume. There was mention of the police using decibel meters to measure the volume, but I forget now what the limit was. If I recall, it was set low.

Here on Phu Quoc Island, the past 3 nights have been noticeably (blissfully) quieter than the past 3 years of Tet opening nights.

Any other expats in country notice a reduction in volume and/or duration of karaoke gatherings so far this year?

During tet all the rules are set aside……..’cept for the drunk drivers……...luckily most of the ‘singers’ get drunk early and fall asleep.  I had to sing as well (of course, everyone has to sing)  Luckily the ausience didn’t know who Jimmy Buffet was so I got away perfect renditions of all his easy to sing songs.    Peace
