Money transfer of USD to Wise via VN

It2VN

I was wondering if anyone here has (had) the same problem .

As someone who can receive funds from a particular source which pays out only in one currency -US dollars, I need to convert them into euros for transfer to an E.U.-based account.

I have a Wise account (and a E.U.-based Paypal account, another of its options for the payments) which seems to be the best solution for converting USD to Euros. I have no bank account in Viet Nam.

However, when I go to my Wise account and click on the 'Payments' icon at the bottom of the screen app, it gives the message " Payment management is not available in your country". I tried running the app using a VPN too but I get the same message.

Shared similar experiences or solution input appreciated.

cheers

From Wise:

You can transfer money from Vietnam to Europe using Wise, as Wise supports transferring to EUR and other European currencies, including to countries like Germany, France, and others. Wise offers competitive exchange rates (mid-market) and, in many cases, can complete transfers to Europe in under a day, often to bank accounts via IBAN.

I would get in contact with them.

Wise (formerly TransferWise) does not have a direct, public-facing email address for general customer support in Vietnam or elsewhere. Instead, you should contact them by logging into your account and using the "Contact Us" form on their Help Centre page, which ensures your query reaches the right team.

It's generally known here in Vietnam that you can use Wise to transfer foreign currency into Vietnam, converted into Việt Nam đồng (VNĐ).

However, Wise cannot be used to send VNĐ out of Vietnam to any country in the world.

Unfortunately, every time I see someone claim that it's possible, they eventually end up admitting that it's not.

The Communist government here is absolutely strict about sending money out of the country, and it can only be done in rare circumstances when the LEGAL source of the funds can be absolutely proven.

Even then, the outbound wire can only be legally accomplished through a bank.

It would appear that the inability to manage an account from Vietnam for other purposes is also restricted under the most current laws.

Almost certainly Wise hasn't updated information on their website to be current with all of the recent very restrictive laws that have been enacted here.

There are illegal ways to accomplish transfers without government approval, but they constitute money laundering under the law here and can't be discussed/encouraged in the Vietnam Forum.

(The mention of "the app" suggests the use of a mobile device. The OP might want to attempt account management using a PC and VPN)

Well you need to complain to Wise bedcause it says so their website!

There’s a new (old) Sherif in Town Son, listen to him, he knows what he is saying.  Try circumventing the law and you’ll wind up eating brown rice, fish skin and salt for a while.   Doesn’t matter what Wise says on their website, Vietnam has their own set of laws.       Peace

As my account's country field was greyed out for Vietnam, I couldn't change it on the app (though it allowed me to update my residential city address in Italy). Indeed, I had to contact them via the app supplying a recent official document with my Italy residence address, and they've changed it to this latter country.

OB, I have/had no interest in the funds being changed into or out of VND. ( I should have stated in the title '...via VN registered location' or similar)
