Hue and Hanoi in August

Svho

Hello,

Before I check the weather channel, we are thinking of going somewhere in August (8th to 25th). Never been to that those cities but have recently went Dec-Jan (Danang, Hoi An, HCMC, Rach Gia, Phu Quoc) to Vietnam. I had traveled twice there during these months.

Once in Hanoi, we will want to go to Sapa/Ninh Binh/Halong Bay.

Heard its hot in August but I am sure two weeks won't kill us :).

August in Hanoi (my previous experience twice) is the most unbearable it gets there all year, due to a combination of seasonal heat and humidity exacerbated by an almost persistent air inversion layer, packing the Hanoi basin with some of the worst air pollution levels in the world during that month.

Couldn't agree more. I spent three years just north of Hanoi (T.P. Thai Nguyen), with frequent trips in to Hanoi. Both Augusts were as hot as blazes, poor air quality, and high humidity. The perfect trifecta.

My very first summer, I experienced what is known as prickly heat rash. Not a pleasant memory.

The absolute best time to visit Hanoi, weather-wise, in my opinion is from October to December. Cool breezes, low humidity, and temps averaging ~30C day, 24C night.
