Entry with O type visa vs exemption

GuestPoster371

It night sound like a silly question, but I'll ask anyway...

Once you get the O type visa in your passport, do you HAVE to use it or can you choose when to use it, i.e enter with an exemption up to 30 days, leave the country and THEN use the SINGLE ENTRY O visa?

Please only responses from people who ACTUALLY know for fact and not 'assuming'.

Thanks

It's valid 90 days,meaning you have 90 days to enter the kingdom using the visa. I have a hard time believing that people applying for a 90 days Non-immigrant O based on retirement wouldn't use it, but sure, you can do it the way you described.

Are you thinking about gaining extra time for banking purposes etc etc? Btw, you won't get a visa in your passport anymore,it's an e-visa sent by email.

My thought was to enter on exemption for up to 30 days, organise accommodation and bank account (upon showing my visa), leave to a neighbouring country and THEN coming back on my O visa.

Btw upon calling the Thai consulate in Sydney they said I need to send the passport and get the visa in my passport. I think only certain countries get e-visa these days, Australia excluded.

Sorry,my bad.I forgot you're an Aussie. That might be a problem. Not using a visa while having it in your passport on arrival is something I've never heard of. It's probably not possible. When having an e-visa,it would have been dead easy.

Oh well another 'perk' of being an Aussie I guess...(Being sarcastic)

So how do you 'shiw' your e-visa to the bank and/or any other authority that night need a proof of your visa type?

You can show the e-visa email (which you have printed out) if they ask for it, together with the passport. It's actually much better with the old fashioned sticker in the passport showing what kind of visa you entered on.

@Leeds forever!

Ok. Well at least I have one advantage for having a sticker on my passport...But upon checking, only very few countries are eligible for e-visa, not including England. Or am I looking at the wrong list?

Loads of countries in the western world are eligible for the e-visa incl the UK and US. You must look at the wrong list.

Why do you need to know? You are not eligible to apply for the e-visa.

Not about the e-visa. About entering with exemption while holding the O visa

My guess is they will say it can't be done. But it's not up to the MFA. It's up to Thai immigration at the airport. And the immigration officer will say no. I'm quite sure about that. I think you're making everything complicated. You have 30 days to find a place to stay, open a bank account and transfer 800k. That's what most people do when arriving on a 90 days Non-immigrant O visa based on retirement,unless they already have a Thai bank account.

And we'll all know that I've paid a total of ฿10.000 for my last 5 years stay in Thailand which includes 5 bank letters from my bank. How much do you think she paid?

Try ฿900.000 for a 5 years Gold Elite Visa. That's the new price from earlier this year, and the benefits are less.

There are only three categories of people going for the Elite Visa. People with loads of money where 900k is peanuts, clueless people and people who don't meet requirements, which is not being close to 50 years of age.

Even if you want a response knowing for fact, I dare anyway to express my idea.

If the visa once issued combined to your name and passport number, is in the Thai system, when you arrive at the airport in Thailand and the officer types your name or number, sure he will find out that you have already the O visa, and could become suspicious about why you don't want to use it.

That's all...

GuestPoster371

@Maxi Mari

Fair enough. That makes a lot of sense

This guy is from Australia and the O-visa sticker is in his passport. Do you really think the immigration officer will miss that? He doesn't need to find out via any system.
