Green Apple Dental Clinic - Mactan Newtown

Cherryann01

Since I have had my gripes before about things in the Philippines I think it is only fair that I should also mention something positive. On my recent visit my girlfriend developed toothache and we went in search to find a dentist. We were staying at the Belmont Hotel in Mactan Newtown and the nurse there recommended a dentist. Unfortunately we went there and there was only the receptionist on duty, no actual dentist and the same story with another practice and at the first one the receptionist had already made her mind up that the tooth had to come out without an X-ray being done and she was not a dentist.

I had already looked on Google Maps and seen that the Green Apple Dental Clinic was nearby so we ended up there. Probably not the cheapest place but we received excellent service and after my girlfriend had had a check up and X-ray she was booked back in for a couple of hours later to have a filling and a tooth extraction. The dentist explained the result of the X-ray and what needed doing and carried out the procedure firstly doing the filling and then after a wait and checking my girlfriends blood pressure several times, she carried out the tooth extraction. My girlfriend was even given a blanket to keep her warm during the procedure as she was cold from the air con. For anybody needing a good dentist in and around Lapu Lapu I would highly recommend this place and I understand they have a branch in Cebu City also.

Breakdown of costs - 1K for the check up. 1.2k for the X-ray. 5k for the tooth extraction and 4k for the filling since it was complicated. So a total of 11.2k and all done on the same day, a Saturday.

Thanks for sharing Cherry, appreciate your experience. I had a molar that was giving me a hard time for months so tracked down a local dentist working from home, 10 minutes drive, she had all the gear and very modern. My first visit for an assessment and being told to not take my blood thinners for a week before I came back, the bill 300pesos. Consulted my doctor through my sister-in-law that is a mid wife and knows my doc, yep he said a week or 10 days won't be a problem. 8 days later back to the dentist, She cleaned my teethand then the injections we all love (don't), took out the base of a tooth in the front that snapped off 6 months earlier, (watch the pork crackle guys),,,,,,,, the molar was another story, the pain and multiple injections left me shaking and excruciating pain, eventually she drilled into the side of the molar, 2 holes and injected aesthetic into the roots, Still painful but eventually it was out, stitches etc. I was in her chair for 2 and a half hours. The total bill was P4,500.,,,,,,, the worst thing was no alcohol for a week,,,,,, that didn't work.

Cheers, Steve.

The total bill was P4,500.

That’s excellent value for money Steve.

I attend a private dental practice here in Bath and I pay that just for a dental clean which takes about 30 minutes 😬

As you are well aware Lotus, many things here are reasonable costs, some cheap and others over the top.

No complaints here though.

Cheers, Steve.

My Medicare Advantage plan gets me two cleanings and examinations per year for free plus free fillings and root canals.  The cost for all of my medical coverage is $43/month withheld from my monthly social security check.  This is a main reason why I maintain residence in the USA.  My two times a year visits to my primary doctor plus my blood tests and urine tests every 6 months are also free.  In addition I receive $100/quarter OTC to spend on tooth brushes, tooth paste, mouthwash, vitamins and diabetic foot cream.  My pills for blood pressure cost about $60/year, same with the statins I take

Two years ago in Vigan I paid 600 pesos for an examination and dental cleaning, an excellent price for a third cleaning for the year.  Would have cost me $120 in the USA.
