Was in Danao yesterday and Talisay the day before. Liloan got hit pretty bad. Cars and trucks washed off the road are still washed off the road and Talisay has areas with many roofless homes. Trees down everywhere, including my area. We had a power outage four times. I'm at a higher elevation so no flooding here, but Tino snapped a mature blue agave that I so far cannot replace. That and a backup power source are my new projects . . .

I think I made it into and out of Manila on 8/9 November just in time. I received the warning about the Typhoon in Jakarta and was constantly checking for flight cancellations. Arrived in Manila just before 5am on 9 November and departed on another flight to Cebu 5 hours later.

Thanks pnw, yeah we survived Uwan, cat 3/4 and as always for the kids scary, lol, more trees down, only 2 fruit trees left after the last few, we were lucky as we never got the torrential rain so no roof or window leaks.

Sadly 24 hour later I was woken by the 2 Labradors barking their heads off, going ballistic, yelled at them to go back to bed,,,,,,, nada kept barking so I got up and went out to quieten them,,,,,,,, this was just before 1 am. Had my trusty torch, they were petrified, I looked out at the beach and the South China Sea was in our titled lot, the tax declared lot was totally underwater.

So the storm surge was 6 metres or more, 2 more metres and it would have been in the house.

The aftermath and crap washed up is a disaster, a few Banka boats washed up on the lot, huge trees,,,,, I'm sure you get the drift.

The waves weren't big just the swell. We have had 2 to 3 metre swells in years gone by but this one was nasty.

Don't we love the Philippines.

Cheers, Steve.

An add on pnw. The typhoon we went through 4/5 months ago was the worst so far, a cat 4 to 5, we got the eye and absolute silence for 20/30 minutes and then hit from the other direction. East then the West.

We couldn't get out here for days with the power poles and trees over our roads (don't we love stand alone solar) and the district was without power for weeks, some 6 weeks.

Our back up gen set went 20 klicks south to the family for 3/4 weeks until the power came back on for them. Flattened and roofless homes and sh1t from ahole to breakfast time, took months to clean up.

A well stocked fridge/freezer and pantry got us through. Hope dearly not to see another like that one.

More fun.

Cheers, Steve.

Wow Steve, must have been crazy to see the ocean so high. Yikes.. that would be terrifying.. but good to hear no intrusion into the house and all systems up and running. The damage and lives lost here (from the first one) near Cebu is really  bad. Sad to see in person. No damage or issues at our home on the mountain (southern part of the island), where we spent the last week, fortunately.

Sorry for the delayed response (was traveling) and good luck on the cleanup.

Yeah pnw it was certainly an eyeopener and how vulnerable we are to tidal surges or God forbid a tsunami.

We have had tidal surges before, 3 to 4 metres but this one was 6 metres  and another 1.5 to 2 metres would have been in the house. Ben and our worker are still cleaning up the rubbish and crap, burning lots of timber and bagging all the plastics. the 2 washed up banka boats were retrieved post haste by their owners as was the mayors picket fence.

The bonus for us pnw is we scored another 6 inches of sand deposited on our native grasses while the neighbours un vegetated lots lost 2 ft of sand, the grasses will or have died but will come back with the next rains.

Glad to hear all is well with your home and yes the loss of life and property in Visayas is heartbreaking.

These events seem to be more frequent these days sadly.

Be safe.

Cheers, Steve.
