Philippine Economic Growth?

bigpearl

We are all off topic it seems but one would ask how many god parents do you need to create economic wealth?/growth?" Different cultures big time it seems.

Cheers, Steve.

My advise for what it is worth is do not do it, do not accept the offer to become a Godparent. Just doing a quick Google check on the responsibilities of a Godparent in the Philippines and this is what I got - Being a Godparent you take the role of being a second parent to the child or a couple, being a guide carrying a responsibility to support them emotionally, spiritually and even financially.

So in other words their emotions and your cash. They will try tap you up to pay for school fees, medication, toys, books and anything else that comes to mind.

Just say no, tell them you are not a religious man, that should do it. You could offer to help with the English lessons though. If my memory serves me correctly mate, were you and your good lady not asked to be sponsors for a couples wedding and ended up having to pay for just about everything.

Fool me once as Enzyte Bob would say.

Also further to my answer above: Who do you think will be paying for the service and the big shindig afterwards. Relatives, cousins, uncles, aunties will be crawling out of the woodwork. How many pigs will they ask you to buy. Rice, fruit, vegetables and a cake also come to mind. I bet they have no intention of paying.

You could of course tell them you are a Rangers supporter and they may feel some pity for you after last nights drubbing by Liverpool.

@Cherryann01 "You could offer to help with the English lessons though."

I think that's a good solution, we can help in other ways, it doesn't need to be financial.

Haha, that's a dangerous debate. Celtic/Rangers are the most electric games but that Rangers 1-7 to Liverpool was a disgrace.

@P1 "I just read your first post about God-parenting to my binibini wife. She got cross (uh-oh look out!) and said she felt shame, and it's because they are kids that they would ask you again for money."

Mate, that's helpful that your wife as a pinay recognises it's likely chancing. I accept there'll always be those in need hoping for assistance, and we like to help (sometimes). I just don't want to be disrespected whilst doing so. On the balance we're better off having set up a project in the Philippines, but rely on Analiza's family so want to consider the impact on them.

@Steve You're right we're way off track. Thanks again gents, was nice to have your input.

Economic wealth is built on smart and not what I see here, none care for their future retirement, none,,,, except the smart ones.

The 9 or 10 guys working here care little for their future, not interested in SSS nor Philhealth only week to week it seems, some day to day. Pay advance please.

The Philippines owns 95% poor people that struggle from week to week and the other 5% keep them there.

Hope I don't get booted for an observation.

Cheers, Steve.
