Which part of KL are you looking at and what kind of size property? Probably many normal property agents are not that interested because their clients don't want to rent short term. But some condos have "in-house" agents that often arrange short term rentals.

    I was hoping to use a property agent, for a 3-month rental in KL,  but my preliminary search has not found anyone who offers short term rentals.  Do you have any input on where to start? Thank you

No such thing. Service apartments, often in the 10,000 RM per month price range are available centrally?not a typo,  ex lived in one at 6,000 per month a decade ago, corporate rate for a year.

Or airnb. No one will go for 3 months, 12 min.

It really also depends on your budget and how nice a place you need.  There's a condo in Bukit Bintang that is old and a bit crappy and often companies rent places there for their staff so you get restaurant staff and construction workers often living there. The place is called Mutiara Villa Condomium. It's considered a 'cheap' place to live but they have security, pool, gym etc and the location is very good. If you go to the Management office on the ground floor lobby, you could tell them you want to rent a place for around 3 months, and ask them if they have the contact number for Carol. Carol was an agent that lived in the condo and she handles so many of the rentals in this place, and is the person who might be able to help. I rented out my sisters apartment there for many years and mostly going through Carol, but I don't know if she is still there or not. There are usually some owners who are willing to rent out apartments short term, and since that place is at the low end of standards then the rents should be a lot lower than other nearby places. The address is at Jln Tengkat Tong Shin.

Another place I stayed at is Sri Wangsaria Condominium in Bangsar Baru. Again, there are agents that live in this condo and they are the ones who will know if any landlords are willing to rent out short term. The woman at the reception used to be Jaya, but I moved out of there 9 years ago so not sure is she will still be around, but you could ask her. She might also know some owners willing to rent short term.

So for a lot of condos if you can speak with Management and get the contact for agents who either live-in or who might do short term rentals, that is the way I would go about it.  Going to agents who advertise lots of condos in all over KL or in certain areas just means that they probably won't know and will contact other agents in specific condos and collaborate and share the commission (which is paid by the landlord).

Also, some landlords will consider short term rentals but with a higher rent, since after the short term tenant moves out the landlord may need to do some works like repainting, cleaning curtains and bedding, servicing aircons and bringing in a cleaner for the whole apartment. With long term tenants they don't have this kind of additional costs.

KL has or had when I lived there a lot of serviced apartments in the KLCC area. That is because expats that move to KL are often put into these apartments for short term until they can find a more permanent place to live. They could be found near KLCC Park and also around the general area where the Beach Club used to be - Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Pinang.

Good idea. You can simply find any nearby agents to help you. In Malaysia agents always work together and split the commission, so if you want to live in a different part of the city the agent will find other agents to cooperate with to find you what you want.
