How to obtain proof of single status as a UK national?

Hello,
My partner (Malaysian) and I are getting married in Malaysia and I'm having a bit of trouble understanding what my options are for obtaining a single status letter as a UK national. As Malaysia is a commonwealth country, the embassy will not issue this kind of letter. On the embassy it says you can make an appointment for them to issue a letter explaining they cannot issue a certificates of no impediment, but would this be necessary given I'm sure Malaysia is fully aware UK doesn't issue these?

Might a declaration witnessed at a Commissioner of Oath be sufficient as proof for registry?

Any experience or advice would be very much welcomed.
Thank you.

I'm not sure how it works when marrying a Malaysian, but when I lived in Malaysia and wanted to marry an Indonesian, I had to make an announcement in a local newspaper in Malaysia stating that I was single and intended to marry and I think inviting anyone to object. I think it was placed for a three days, but I might be wrong. I really don't remember much about it but perhaps ask about that at the British Consulate,
Just go to the embassy and get that letter. It is accepted as standard. I did it twice!
