Extension of visa during Movement Control Order

My suggestion is to go to the immigration department. I know that in other countries such as Indonesia you need to bring proof of your flight out of the country along with your passport and they almost certainly issue an extension of 30 days. For Malaysia I do not know but my guess is that the process might be similar.

Wow that's a bit ridiculous. Can't imagine how visitors are feeling especially if they are unable to proceed with their flights.

The US Embassy says that there are flights out available on Malaysian Airlines from KLIA to Heathrow 7 days a week., Qatar Airways also has flights daily to Doha. And JAL and ANA are sharing the route to Tokyo...every other day except Monday.  I think JAL is Tues, Thurs, Sat and ANA Wed, Fri, Sunday.Of course you'd also have to book an onward flight if you got aboard one of those.

And then when you arrive at your ultimate destination you may be subject to additional quarantine.

Joey, I hope your friend can find a solution. We don't know where he is from and where he wants to go. As mentioned above, the information given out by immigration is not very clear or detailed. Perhaps try looking on some of the expat Facebook pages. Some people are saying that if you stay longer than your visa permits that you will not be fined. However, I don't have any proof about this.

My partner is Thai and she read on a Thai Embassy site Kaula Lumpur  that if your visa expires there is no problem until 14April 2020  . . . .

In other news, foreigners with long-stay passes may return to Malaysia...BUT they will be required to remain in a quarantine center in Selangor or Negeri Sembilan for two weeks. This is supervised lock-down, not voluntary. My understanding is that this will be paid for by the Malaysian Government, meals included. But they are wonderfully vague on some details...private or shared quarters? Families can remain together? Can items of personal use be delivered to the quarantine centers (books, computers, clothing, personal hygiene items, medications)?

2. NEW APPLICATION

Looks like Air Asia are moving the date they resume flights to !st May as they are not taking new bookings until then saying' flight unavailable'

Could be that they are planning to extend the lockdown until the end of April

Seems likely. Air Asia has no flights scheduled to/from Sarawak until April 22. But that's dependent entirely upon the Sarawak state MRO.  (current #2 and set to be ending April 13, but I expect extension). US Embassy says daily ANA/JAL flights out of KLIA to Tokyo are fully booked until mid April. Still may be seat on MAS to London, and Qatar Air to London.

I suppose you all received emails from Air Asia saying they are now doing food delivery for their in-flight meals within the Klang Valley. Can't see it replacing the profits on flights though

If you need to renew or extend an expired pass.

Immigration Offices were opened starting  yesterday for those activities. Unfortunately there were long lines. Today (May 7th Thursday) is a public holiday (Wesak Day) and the offices are again closed. But tomorrow May 8th (Friday) they will be open from 8AM-2 PM. Then a full days operation on Monday (May 11th).

Tourist "Visas" are actually "Short-Term Visitor Passes" so yes. the regulations DO cover them.

If you need an extension you may need to get justification from your embassy.  Hopefully they will be generous with extensions because there are not very many flights out and people may not easily be able to get a flight home or to a nearby country that doesn't have rigid quarantine standards.

And if you return you may expect another long quarantine.

But this will likely clear out people who have been using "Visa Hopping" to stay repeatedly in Malaysia and other countries.

One major correction to the above which I attempted to correct but the editing function would not allow. . I was using the directive from Sarawak as to the specifics of the January vs. post-January timelines. I don't know if the Peninsula or Sabah have similar restrictions for January arrivals.

The article is unclear as to whether Peninsular Malaysia will treat groups differently based upon date of arrival...all it says is that those wanting to extend should justify the extension by some statement from their embassy.

My impression is that you'll have 14 days to get everything arranged when the Movement Control Order ends (or if it is extended). Likely there will not be many flights until June 12th as interstate travel is restricted for Malaysians. Non-Malaysians actually may get permission as they may make an argument that they NEED to catch a flight out of Malaysia.

In any case it looks like the planned cheaper routes are to Ho Chi Minh City, Medan, Phuket and Singapore IF these locales allow foreign travelers at that point without quarantine.
