Dependant Pass Processing

PisethKH

Hi, my name is Piseth KIM from Cambodia. I was offered a job in Malaysia, which requires me to relocate there. My employer will take care of my Employment Pass here. But since I need to bring my wife along, I need to apply for a Dependant Pass for my wife as well. As it is not part of my benefit budget, I am asked to do it by my own. Could anyone tell me how DP is processed? How long and how much does it take and cost to process a DP? Also I was told that I need to fly to Malaysia ahead of my wife to apply for the DP. Could anyone tell me, is there any way that allow my wife to travel along with me to Malaysia without having to wait?

Your sharings and feedbacks will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Your wife needs a Visa with Reference (Calling Visa or VDR) to be able to convert that entry visa to a DP.

You need to find an honest agent to make the application. Employer perhaps can suggest.

Minimum salary to qualify for DP is still 5k per month basic salary I think?

Application will probably take 1 month as soon as you have Stage 1 approval. VDR is collected before departure from Malaysian Consulate in home country also at your expense.

Tricky thing is finding an agent who is experienced in handling VDRs as 2 ministries are involved which is why it is time consuming.

Hi Gravitas, is the said VDR the 30-day visa-free pass that Malaysia offers to Cambodian passport holder?

Gravitas

No. It's not.

It's a special entry visa. In your case for your Dependant spouse

You can find the documents required at MDEC or ESD websites. Your Marriage certificate will need authenticating.

You can find a Guide on this page. It's a PDF file found near the bottom.

It helps explain the process.

I don't know if Cambodian Spouses are mentioned in the husband's passport. If so that is sufficient I think to prove you are legally husband and wife.

Thanks Gravitas for the information. I will make sure to read through it.

Hello Gravitas,

I have something needing you to clarify for me. As we have already known that Cambodia, as one of SEA nations, is provided the 30-day visa-free exemption by Malaysia.

In such case, does my wife still need to apply for a visa to enter Malaysia? From what I search from various sources, it is said that Visa With Reference (VDR) is a requirement only for those entering Malaysia from the countries that require a visa to enter the country.

Would you mind clarifying me with that?

Thanks,
Piseth

Gravitas

If you are required to enter on a VDR because its for employment purposes then your spouse will require it as well. The difference being whether the Stage 2 endorsement can be done from arrival as a tourist.

PisethKH

Ohhhh.....!

These are what I understand from the informaiton you give me:

1. 30-day visa-free exemption is no longer applicable if the entry is for employment purpose.
2. I am entering Malaysia on a VDR (applied by my employer) and getting EP endorsement in Malaysia.
3. My spouse is entering Malaysia on VDR (applied by me) as well, and then I will apply for DP for my spouse in Malaysia and get endorsement over there.

Correct me if I'm wrong or kindly add if you see sth missing.

Dear Gravitas,

I am now in contact with an agent to help me with the Dependent Pass processing.

After discussin with him, I need to pay as follows:
- 500RM for agent service fee
- 530RM for DP Processing Stage 1 (to be charged by MDEC)
-  ???RM for DP Processing Stage 2 (to be charge by Immigration)

May I know you opinion regarding these payment?

Thanks in advance,
Piseth
