Dipping my toe in the water

theothermyplanet

Hello, everyone.

My name is Michael.

I am planning a move to South Africa in the not too distant future. At the age of 69 it's fair to say "If I live that long."

I'm currently retired and a full-time caregiver for my partner who is living with a terminal diagnosis. I own a home in the San Francisco Bay Area.

A couple of years ago I loaned my son money to purchase a property near Johannesburg. After my partner was diagnosed I considered my situation and realized that after my partner is gone I'll have no particular reason to stay in my current location and started thinking about a retirement visa and move to South Africa. I put the move on the back burner until my son told me about the Witteberg Nature Reserve and after a little research I decided to buy in to the reserve. I'm hoping to live out my days there and leave the home (yet to be built) to my son.

Welcome to Expat.com πŸ˜€

Thank you for sharing your expatriation plans with us.

I must say, it sounds like a thoughtful decision.

Is there anything in particular you would like to discuss with other members of the South Africa forum? Feel free to ask your questions if you have any.

Cheers,

Cheryl
