Spouse residence permit

Hi,

I am mauritian but my husband is a foreigner who needs to apply for his Spouse Residence Permit in Mauritius.

The immigration office asks that he has a bank account in Mauritius, however no banks will let him open an account without the residence permit.

Can someone help?

Hi Christina.

Hope you are well. Just seen your post.

Very strange asking for local bank statements from a foreign spouse. This is something new. I am in the process of organising my wife's (who is a foreigner) residence permit. Am looking into it at the moment. Do you still hold a Mauritian passport etc ? Then this should not be an issue.

Pre covid - early 2019 this was not a requirement.

Unless your spouse opens a bank account in Mauritius and then applies for the residence permit....

Am sure someone will shed some light on this latest issue.

Hope you have managed to sort your issue re bank account.

You are correct as this rule applies if "Spouse is male"

Quote from the passport.govmu.org : different rules apply for male & female spouses.

Application for a Residence permit as spouse of a citizen of Mauritius

Male spouse:

12. Documentary evidence of latest financial means for the upkeep of oneself and that of his family (a recent personal or joint bank statement from a bank in Mauritius or payslip from Mauritius for the last three months).

This does not apply for Female Spouse..... Why is that ? I have no idea.

Above quote is asking for personal or joint bank statement..... maybe there is a way there...?

Trust you have managed to get this residence permit sorted by now... Do let us know please.
