Export of Vehicle from South Africa

aveshsingh09

Hi,

My Son is Comming end of this year on a student visa to study at the University of Mauritius.

He has a 2015 Bmw 316i, that is in his name and he wants to export to Mauritius.

Is it possible or not?
What are the requirements?
Is it fees able or not?
What are the fees?

Under the normal rules, only vehicles younger than 4 years may be imported, and then carry a 100% import duty on the value of the vehicle that the import authorities on the Mauritius side determine
(as opposed to its second hand value in South Africa which would have been less).

Therefore I would advise that it would be unfeasible or exorbitantly expensive.

Better to buy a smaller car once in Mauritius (which also unfortunately carries a 100% tax, therefore roughly Double what it would cost in SA, irrespective of whether it is new or used)

If someone buys a brand new vehicle on the island from a dealer/importer. Are they also subject to 100% import duty? And thus twice the cost of a vehicle from a city elsewhere.
