private messages or notifications ? or both maybe ? 
The notifications are fine for the time being 
Private Messages (so they don't take up the space here, and I end up getting a post like Musheer to clear my inbox!)

Maybe what could be done is that when some1 gets a message the Blog could send an email containing the text ( as it does when you subscribe to posts ) and the person could save the message....
But I understand , SERIAL EXPATS like Hansa need more space and want to store emails because of their growing popularity
