Dear all
Since I have to stay here in Tripoli for long period, I would like to learn the basics of arabic language.
Do you know if there are any schools with lessons held in english (or better in italian ;))?

Thanks awfully!

Hi pigee and welcome to Expat.com :)
Maybe you could check out the Language exchange section in Tripoli's Classifieds?
Hope this helps

Hello Pigee,

I am in the same situation as you. I will be here for 4 years, and I am trying to study some Arabic basic stuff. I found a good website for self-stuy madinaarabic.com you should check it out. It's step by step and free. All you need is to put some time and effort into it. I think Arabic isdifficult and time-consuming but I will try as much as possible to memorize the words. I plan to finish all the 27 lessons on offer, which should keep me occupied for a couple more months, then I plan to find some language tuition instructors or maybe language exchange with some people on this board. In any case, let's keep in touch and maybe we can help each other in the future. I also know a Libyan guy from this board who used to live in Italy for 20 years and speaks fluent Italian. Maybe he would be interested in teaching you some Arabic, but I'll ask him about it first.

Cheers,
Vee
madinaharabic.com in fact this is the correct website. An "h" was missing in my previous post. Enjoy learning! Cheers, Vee
Thank you Veechansa! I'll try this web!
Inshallah! ;)
That website is fantastic.

You can even download the ebooks of each step by step lesson (27 lessons in total).

Many thanks for this great find :)
You are both most welcome! It's a very good website, I agree, esp for self-taught. I hope they extend the lessons beyond 27 soon! Now I'm going at a snail's pace, still on chapter 3 though haha!
veechansa, thousands of thanks!!! i can see the light at the end of the tunnel now! till i find i school in tripoli i can start with this website which is more than great.
You are most welcome Sarmis. When you find a good school for Arabic, please recommend to me as well! I would be interested to take some proper interactive language courses, instead of just blurting out some monotones in front of my laptop :)
