Marriage with Egyptian woman

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some guidance regarding marriage procedures in Egypt. Has anyone here (specifically an Australian or Pakistani) recently married an Egyptian woman?

    •    How was the process for you?

    •    What documents were required and how long did it take?

Any tips, personal experiences, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

thanks alot.

Congratulations on the decision. A marriage between a foreigner and an Egyptian is concluded at the Ministry of Justice's office for foreigners' marriages in Cairo — an embassy or a local registrar cannot do it. You will typically need: your passport with a valid visa, a legalized birth certificate, a certificate of no impediment from your home country (attested by your embassy in Cairo and the Egyptian Foreign Ministry), passport photos, and a medical certificate. Both spouses attend with two witnesses, and the contract is drawn up in Arabic. Once the file is complete, the marriage itself is usually finalized in one or two visits; gathering and legalizing the documents is the part that takes time, so allow several weeks. Afterwards, have the contract attested at the Foreign Ministry and registered at your embassy so it is recognized back home. Requirements change, so confirm the current document list with the office before you travel.
