Expat Teacher in Lubumbashi

KhanMJ

Hi everyone,

I am an expat teacher preparing for a new role in Lubumbashi and would love to connect with the local community here. As I plan my move, I’m hoping to get some firsthand insights on a few things:

Housing & Neighborhoods: Which areas are popular for expats? I'm looking for a balance of safety, reliable utilities (power/water), and proximity to best standard markets.

Daily Life & Logistics: Are there specific items that are hard to find or much more expensive locally that I should bring with me? Also, any tips on navigating local transport or finding a reliable driver would be appreciated.

Health & Safety: Beyond the standard advice, are there specific clinics or pharmacies you recommend? Any "unwritten rules" for staying safe and healthy in the city?

Social Scene: I’d love to know where teachers and expats usually hang out. Are there any active social groups, sports clubs, or weekend activities you’d recommend for meeting new people?

If any fellow educators or long-term residents are open to a quick chat or have a "welcome guide" they swear by, please let me know!

Looking forward to meeting you all soon.

Best regards,
