Is the green card program still available?

MLB9

Hi, im Lynne, my Husband and I are planning on moving to Cape Verde, we have a property there already and are looking to find out more regarding residencia or citizenship.  Is the green card program still available?

My husband, Jim, would be there full time possibly as soon as April 2026, and hope to set i a small business  I would continue to travel for the next few years as I work a lot in europe. We have NIF numbers and a CV bank account.

If anyone can help us with information that would be great 👍

Hi Lynne,

The green card program is part of the law of Cape Verde. It was introduced to help foreigners who invest (€80-120 thousand) in real estate have a fast track to a residency visa which normally takes about 3-4 months. If you follow the rules, you could have your residency within 1-2 months. But, counting the time it takes to find and close a real estate deal, in my opinion, there is no real time advantage to the green card residency versus a normal residency application. Even with the green card residency application, there are still a host of documents (besides proof of the real estate investment) that you will need to submit with your aplication.

So in conclusion, do not invest in CV real estate just to get residency. Anyone can easily obtain residency regardless of real estate investment. I would advise to get your residency first via the normal approach, determine if CV is the place you really want to settle down, and THEN invest in real estate. I see no point in investing to obtain a green card then running the rsk that CV isn't really where you want to be. You may end up stuck with a piece of property that you may be forced to sell under conditions that are less than optimal.

Note well: The green card program is NOT a citizenship program. You do not get CV citizenship simply because you have invested in real estate. So, please do not be misled by unscrupulous people who attempt to convince you otherwise.

P.S. If you are now (April 2026) back in CV, dont hesitate to contact me for guidance.
